Minutes of the General held on Thursday 22nd April 2010

at 4.0pm in the Surgical Seminar Room Dept. of Surgery, Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Present : Fifteen members

Apologies :Barbara Parker, Norma Neill, Sally Boxall, Donald Simpson, Rob Cooter, Don Beard

Speaker:
President Chris Hughes introduced the speaker,  Dr.Joan Durdin. Joan after a long illustrious career in nursing , moved to history. Her interest is I Medical History especially in  SA.Nursing History
Her title was “Black Pro to University Undergraduate – changes in nursing education in the past120years.”
Joan spoke about the role of nurses and the changes in nursing education , relating all the changes in nursing education to changes in medical practice  Her talk was most interesting and after it she fielded many questions from the members present.
Audrey Kemp gave the vote of thanks from us all commenting how one always learnt such a lot form hearing other members speak.

Business

Minutes General Meeting18-3-10 were accepted.

Caring for Collections –Pomberuk Murray Bridge-
No one able to attend but forwarded notes by Pauline Cockrill for our interest

Membership – new members Brian Nort, Barbara Parker (renewed)
David Buob to add new members to role and provide new membership list.

Correspondence
AMA – official agreement to SAMHS adding their items to website.
Archivists Society- invitation to Cathedral Walk on16-5-10

Meeting closed at 5.00pm

Next Meeting- This will be held on Thursday20th May 2010 at 4.00pm at the Surgical Seminar Room , Dept of Surgery 6th Floor Main Building QEH Woodville.
The speaker will be Dr. Fiona Khor  . Her topic will be “ History of Chemotherapy and Development of Oncology Drugs”
